Abstract

 Analysis of residual vibration control by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method  The calculation time for transient analysis: 22 h in ANSYS and 1 s for proposed FFT method  FFT method can be used to study the vibration control of complex mechanical systems A method which uses the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is introduced to study the vibration control of a single-link flexible composite manipulator by input shaping. FFT method uses the impulse response of the system which can be obtained by ANSYS. Then, vibration responses are found by FFT method for various inputs. Figure A. Experimental system and comparison of vibration responses for experiment and FFT method Purpose: The purpose of this study is obtain transient results of a single-link flexible composite manipulator in a short time. Theory and Methods: FFT method is verified on an analytical model first, then single-link flexible composite manipulator is modeled in ANSYS and transient responses are found by FFT. The results are compared with experimental results.. Then, a single-link composite manipulator is modeled in ANSYS and residual vibrations are found by the FFT method which uses the unit impulse response obtained by ANSYS and the results are compared with experimental results. It is observed that the FFT method is useful for saving time when obtaining transient responses and evaluating the results. Results: The samples of the impulse response is found by ANSYS, which requires a 22 h of calculation time. The FFT method is used for the trapezoidal velocity profiles using the samples of the impulse response found by ANSYS. The FFT method requires 1 s only. Conclusion: The simulation results by FFT are compared with experimental results for various inputs. The results are in good agreement and it is observed that the residual vibration of the end point can be decreased by taking the deceleration time of the velocity profile considering the natural frequency. The FFT method introduced in this work can be used to analyze the vibration control of complex mechanical systems with different input shaping.
