Abstract: Seagrass meadows are important ecosystems due to their high productivity and ecological value among tropical ecosystems, because of their high species diversity. In Colombia seagrasses are located around some islands, oceanic coral banks and along the Caribbean shelf, mainly in La Guajira Department, where more than 80% of the seagrass meadows of the country are present. “…Por último, es importante señalar que se ha evidenciado que los pastos marinos son un ecosistema dinámico, el cual naturalmente puede aumentar o disminuir su cobertura a lo largo del tiempo (Millán et al, 2016), esto implica que la definición de sectores o polígonos para su análisis sea distinto al relacionado muchas veces a su estructura, composición y función del ecosistema (Van Thang, 2014), y gire en torno al como las externalidades pueden afectarlo o cambiarlo; sin embargo, esto no significa, que en favor de lograr una buena gestión del ecosistema, sea un reto fortalecer los esfuerzos en investigación y monitoreo de manera que se pueda brindar más y mejor información con relación a atributos bióticos o aspectos como la genética, que permitan diferenciar áreas y proponer medidas de manejo más acertadas y acordes con la dinámica del ecosistema.…”
