The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic review of studies that used Video Conferencing (VC) intervention for common chronic conditions. Chronic conditions account for the majority of poor health, disability, and death, and for a major portion of health-care expenditures in the United States. Innovative methods and interventions are needed to enhance care and management, improve access to care, improve patient outcomes, narrow health disparities and reduce health-care costs. Video Conferencing could be particularly relevant in improving health, care management, access and cost in the care of chronic illnesses. A comprehensive literature search process guided by the PRISMA statement led to the inclusion of 27 articles measuring video conferencing, at least one chronic illness, and patient outcomes for adults living in a community setting. While VC has been found to be feasible and effective, a low number of randomized controlled trials limit evidence. In addition, studies in this review were not designed to address the question of whether access to care in rural areas is improved through VC. Hence, more research is needed.

Effect of Organic Matter on Adsorption and Persistence of Thiram Fungicide in Different Soils

The Freundlich equation provides a good fit (r 2 > 0.99) for the adsorption data on thiram in all the soils. The Freundlich constant (K) value for thiram in Farm Yard Manure (FYM) treated soils were more than in corresponding untreated soils. Thiram showed 'L' type isotherm curve (1/n < 1) indicated non-linear relationship between the thiram concentration and adsorption. The negative magnitude of Gibbs free energy (∆G) indicate that the adsorption was exothermic and spontaneity process. The persistence of thiram indicated a close correspondence to the (r 2 > 0.92) first order exponential degradation kinetics in the soils and mainly influenced by soil organic matter. The half-life (T1/2) value of thiram was highest for alluvial soil followed by sandy loam and black soils.

Although telehealth-based pain management research has grown over the last decade, it is difficult to determine the state of the research because of methodological differences and variability in quality among existing studies. In a previous systematic review, we outlined these differences and preliminarily explored the promise of telehealth for pain intervention. We completed a PRISMA compliant meta-analysis of telehealth pain management research to more precisely describe the state of the research and to uncover gaps in the existing literature that highlight directions for future research. We identified 10 relevant studies completed between 2000 and 2011 including 3 noninferiority and 7 superiority studies. Meta-analysis revealed an overall benefit of telehealth interventions over control conditions and equivalence with in-person intervention. However, some of the reviewed studies found no benefit for telehealth over control conditions. Some methodological concerns among the examined research included poor research quality, small sample sizes, and the examination of telehealth pain interventions without proven efficacy for in-person treatment. Recommendations for future studies are reviewed.
