Temperature and Recognition Dual Responsive Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) and Poly(N,N-Dimethylacrylamide) with Adamantyl Side Group

Abstract: A series of copolymers with an adamantyl side group (poly(NIPAM-co-AdMA) and poly(DMAM-co-AdMA)) were prepared by radical copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAM) with a 2-methyl-2-adamantylmethacrylate (AdMA) monomer. The structure and composition of the as-synthesized copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermogravimetric analysi… Show more

“…In this stage, the weight loss of NC (SC) hydrogel is attributed to the degradation of SC, and is consistent with the study in Marcilla et al [46] It also demonstrates that the corrosion inhibitors SC have been successfully loaded in NC hydrogel. The stage III ranges from 300 °C to 900 °C, consistent with the temperature range corresponding to the second stage of the NC hydrogel for the weight loss, the weight loss relates to the degradation of the chain backbone of PDMA, [44,45] where presents a weight loss of 28.0 %. Meanwhile, corresponding to the DTG curve the peak temperature is 402.7 °C.…”

“…in the hydrogel. The stage II ranges from 300 °C to 900 °C, the weight loss relates to the degradation of the chain backbone of PDMA, [44,45] where presents a weight loss of 27.6 %, meanwhile, corresponding to the DTG curve the peak temper- ature is 407.1 °C. As a consequence, the weight loss ranging from 40 °C to 900 °C is mainly attributed to the degradation of the organic chain.…”

“…The clear-turbid phase transition occurred before and after cloud point temperature (T cp ) [19][20][21][22][23]. The polymer hydration is thus wrapped by water molecules and dissolves when the temperature is lower than T cp .…”

“…Currently, poly- N -isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAAm) remains the most studied polymer, demonstrating a phase transition from an insoluble to a soluble state at a certain temperature. It exhibits the so-called lower critical dissolution temperature (LCST) behavior [ 1 , 2 ]. Below LCST, PNIPAAm is hydrophilic, and its copolymerization with hydrophobic or hydrophilic comonomers changes its properties, lowering or increasing the LCST of its aqueous solutions, respectively.…”
