Temperature-compensated bulk shear microwave resonators in LiTaO3

Abstract: Previous work on high overtone bulk longitudinal mode resonators in yittrium aluminum garnet has demonstrated loaded Q values in excess of 50 000 at frequencies near 2 GHz. These resonators are excited by sputtered ZnO thin-film transducers disposed on the substrate to provide a response in transmission. Herein we report the development of ZnO film shear mode transducers and their use in the excitation of temperature stable cuts of LiTaO3.
