Temperature-compensated constitutive model of fused filament fabrication 3D printed PLA materials with full extrusion temperatures

Abstract: Purpose This study aims to focus on the effect of interlayer bonding and thermal decomposition on the mechanical properties of fused filament fabrication-printed polylactic acid specimens at high extrusion temperatures. Design/methodology/approach A printing process, that is simultaneous manufacturing of contour and specimen, is used to improve the printing accuracy at high extrusion temperatures. The effects of the extrusion temperature on the mechanical properties of the interlayer and intra-layer are eval… Show more

“…Due to the fact that the print parameters are crucial, the parameters used for depositing plastics with 3D FDM printing to metal are presented in Table 3. Researchers agree that the parameters for the 3D FDM printing process have a significant influence on the properties of the printed element [68][69][70][71][72][73]. Due to the fact that the print parameters are crucial, the parameters used for depositing plastics with 3D FDM printing to metal are presented in Table 3.…”

“…The choice of both: additive technology and prototype material has a significant influence on the mechanical strength of printed details (Duarte et al , 2022; Mantecón et al , 2022; Zhu et al , 2022). Equally, determining the print parameters, such as the model orientation against the prototyping machine platform, the temperature of the print head nozzle, internal structure, the thickness of the thread or the supporting structures, is decisive for a printing process to be successful (Fontana et al , 2022; Nahar and Gurrala, 2022; Sedighi et al , 2022).…”

“…Additive manufacturing, often termed 3D printing, is a comprehensive materials development technique which has gained signification attention following its discovery in the 1980s [1][2][3][4][5][6][35][36][37]. At present this technology is experiencing significant growth and can now be applied using a wide range of methods, including material jetting [38,39], binder jetting [40,41], material extrusion [42][43][44][45][46], powder bed fusion [47,48], vat photopolymerization [37,[49][50][51][52][53], and sheet lamination [35,36,54,55].…”
