Temperature‐responsive linear polyelectrolytes and hydrogels based on [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride and N‐isopropylacrylamide and their complex formation with potassium hexacyanoferrates (II, III)

Abstract: Water-soluble temperature-responsive polyelectrolytes and hydrogels have been synthesized by ␥-radiation copolymerization of [2-(methacryloyloxy)-ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride with N-isopropylacrylamide. Complex formation of soluble copolymers with potassium hexacyanoferrates (II, III) was studied in aqueous solutions. It was shown that, depending on the concentration and temperature, the formation of soluble or insoluble polycomplexes is observed. The hydrogels show good ability to absorb potassium hexacya… Show more

“…The synthesis of the linear copolymers was performed by the γ‐radiation copolymerization of MADQUAT with NIPAAM in 10% aqueous solutions, as described in refs. 10 and11. The copolymerization was conducted in sealed glass ampules with an MRX‐γ‐25M setup equipped with a 60 Co source with a dose rate of 0.16 Gy/s.…”

“…In particular, water-soluble polymers exhibiting lower critical solution temperature (LCST) are among the most interesting stimuli-sensitive materials due to numerous potential applications in controlled release systems [1], biotechnology [2], separation and enrichment technologies [3], and stabilization of colloids [4]. Pursuing these applications requires precise control over the properties of stimuli-responsive materials.…”
