Temporal and spatial change of habitat quality and its driving forces: The case of Tacheng region, China

Abstract: Habitat quality assessment is an important basis for ecological restoration practice. Taking the Tacheng region as an example, the InVEST model was used to evaluate the habitat quality of the Tacheng region in five periods from 2000 to 2020, and analyze the reasons for its changes, to provide theoretical guidance for ecological restoration practice in arid areas. The conclusions were that from 2000 to 2020, the habitat quality in the Tacheng region improved slightly, and the value of the habitat index in the T… Show more

“…The northern part (Altay) is characterized by a cooler climate and high habitat heterogeneity, with complex flora on Altay Mountain [1,5], and serves as a refuge for numerous endangered and endemic species. The central part (Tacheng) is situated in the west of the Junggar Basin, where the climate is drier in the plains and more humid in the mountains, resulting in the mountainous areas becoming isolated islands for the survival of species [6]. The southern part (Ili River Valley) belongs to western Tien Shan, which is marked by a high degree of species richness and distinctive features, with significant vegetation differentiation, and it is a global biodiversity hotspot [7,8].…”

“…The second category quantitatively assesses the maximum wildlife population a habitat can sustain. It explores habitat evaluation, habitat selection, wildlife diet, behavior studies, and migratory dynamics to identify factors influencing habitat carrying capacity [17][18][19][20]. The third category focuses on human interventions and habitat environmental capacity through ecological restoration.…”
