Temporal and tissue-specific expression of mouse ets genes.

Abstract: The expression of ets genes has been studied in mouse tissues and regenerating murine liver, an in vivo model for cell proliferation. Our results indicate that (i) the ets-1 and ets-2 loci are transcriptionally active; (ii) the ets-2 locus encodes a major mRNA (3.5 kilobases) and is expressed in most of the tissues examined, whereas the ets-l locus encodes a major 5.3-kilobase and minor 4.0-, 2.5-, and 2.2-kilobase RNA species and is expressed at a high level in thymus; (iii) both ets-1 and ets-2 mRNA are abun… Show more

“…In vitro differentiation studies have shown that in human hematopoietic cell lines, Fli-1 expression promotes MK 34 and suppresses erythroid differentiation. 35,36 The patterns of expression of Ets-1 and Fli-1 were shown to be similar, 28,37 and we found that during 'in vitro' erythroid and MK differentiation, Fli-1 expression profile was superimposable to that of Ets-1 (our unpublished data). Interestingly, the Ets-1 and Fli-1 genes are physically linked, located within 200 kb on human chromosome 11.…”

“…We found that 2 transcription factor genes, c-fos and ets-2, were down-regulated in FRP-treated joints. Their expression has been associated with a proliferative role in many tissues (21,33). It has been reported that c-fos and ets-2 expression was higher in rheumatoid synovial tissue than that in normal synovial tissue, suggesting that they may play an important role in the progression of RA (22,34,35).…”

“…Ets2 and Ets1 show reciprocal patterns of expression during T cell activation: Ets2 is not expressed in quiescent T cells (where Ets1 is expressed) and is expressed in activated cells (where Ets1 is not expressed) (Figure 1) (Bhat et al, 1987(Bhat et al, , 1994. Also, in late stage B-cell maturation, Ets2 expression is markedly increased.…”

“…Both genes display high level and uniform expression patterns within the newly formed mesoderm, and these expression levels fall as the mesoderm matures (Kola et al, 1993). Fli1 and Ets1 are highly expressed in endothelial cells and megakaryocytes, and both genes are expressed throughout the adult spleen and thymus (Bhat et al, 1987;Kola et al, 1993).…”
