Ten‐year outcomes of the first ‘one‐stop haematuria clinic’ in an Australian public hospital

Abstract: Urgent assessment of haematuria is critical to exclude malignancy. We report the 10‐year prospectively collected outcomes from Australia's first dedicated one‐stop haematuria clinic at a tertiary‐level teaching hospital. This model of care serves as an effective tool for rapid, streamlined assessment of patients presenting with haematuria.

“…For the 42 studies , quality was 'good' in eight [20,21,[24][25][26]36,53,57], 'fair' in 22 [23,27,29,[31][32][33]37,38,40,41,43,47,49,51,52,[54][55][56][58][59][60][61] and 'poor' in 12 studies [22,28,30,34,35,39,42,[44][45][46]48,50]. As studies rated of 'good' quality were deemed to have low bias, we wanted to investigate the prostate cancer prevalence specifically for these studies [20,21,[24][25][26]36,53,57].…”

“…Refer patients aged 45 and over with unexplained visible haematuria or persistent visible haematuria following successful treatment of UTI, using a suspected cancer pathway. Prospective cohort studies of protocol driven haematuria clinics in secondary care show that 14-34% of outpatients presenting with visible haematuria are found to have malignant pathology (including non-urological cancers, eg, vulval and cervical cancer) 9101112. Other indications for referral are summarised in table 1.…”
