Ten-year survival and factors associated with increased mortality in patients admitted for acute decompensated heart failure in Thailand

Abstract: ADHERE Registry GroupMETHODS Patients who were admitted with a primary diagnosis of heart failure were enrolled in the Thai Acute Decompensated Heart Failure Registry (ADHERE) from 18 hospitals located across Thailand during 2006. Medical record data was collected according to ADHERE protocol. Mortality data was collected from death certificates on file at the Thailand Bureau of Registration Administration. RESULTSA total of 1,451 patients were included. The mean age of the patients was 63.7 ± 14.4 years, and … Show more

“…Though data are sparse, in Thailand about 6% of people admitted with heart failure die in hospital [ 4 ]. One-year, five-year and ten-year mortality rates in Thai patients admitted for acute decompensated heart failure were 28%, 58% and 73%, respectively [ 5 ].…”

“…There was a limited study to investigate the association of in uenza vaccine and outcomes in heart failure patients in Thailand that has in uenza infection over a year (nonseasonal pattern). In this study, patients who received the in uenza vaccine are more likely to be classi ed as HFrEF groups that had a high mortality rate in Thai ADHERE registry (HR 1.47; 95%CI 1.25-1.72) 9 .…”

“…The sample size for the primary outcome was calculated assuming a 73.3% in ten years mortality in heart failure patients 9 and in uenza vaccine would reduce the incidence by at least 18%. 7 Thus, considering a test of differences in proportion between 2 groups of 1:2 (vaccinated group: unvaccinated group), 80% power and 5% alpha, 422 participants were needed (159 patients in vaccinated group and 318 patients in unvaccinated group).…”

“…According to the result in our study, the overall survival rate is higher than the Thai ADHERE study. 7 A trend of increasing CRT implantation in Thailand is also demonstrated in the APHRS white book. 11 We may assume that CRT implantation accompanied with optimal medication in selected Thai patients with heart failure could improve their prognosis.…”

“…The mortality was 28%, 58.2%, and 73.3 at 1-year, 5-year, and 10-year after the onset of heart failure, respectively. 7 The goals of treating patients with heart failure are not merely to relieve their symptoms, improve functional capacity, and increase the quality of life but also preventing for heart failure rehospitalization and death. Even several medications have met the benefits of these treatment goals, but medical devices also have a crucial role in these patients.…”
