Generating sufficient power from waste heat is one of the most important things for thermoelectric (TE) techniques in numerous practical applications. The output power density of an organic thermoelectric generator (OTEG) is proportional to the power factors (PFs) and the electrical conductivities of organic materials. However, it is still challenging to have high PFs over 1 mW m−1 K−2 in free‐standing films together with high electrical conductivities over 1000 S cm−1. Herein, densifying multi‐walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) films would increase their electrical conductivity dramatically up to over 10 000 S cm−1 with maintained high Seebeck coefficients >60 µV K−1, thus leading to ultrahigh PFs of 7.25 and 4.34 mW m−1 K−2 for p‐ and n‐type MWCNT films, respectively. In addition, it is interesting to notice that the electrical properties increase faster than the thermal conductivities, resulting in enhanced ZT of 3.6 times in MWCNT films. An OTEG made of compressed MWCNT films is fabricated to demonstrate the heat‐to‐electricity conversion ability, which exhibits a high areal output power of ∼12 times higher than that made of pristine MWCNT films. This work demonstrates an effective way to high‐performance nanowire/nanoparticle‐based TE materials such as printable TE materials comprised of nanowires/nanoparticles.

The N‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl) maleimide (4‐HPM) modified waterborne polyurethane emulsions (MWPU) were used as surface sizing agents to improve the interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers (CF) and epoxy resin matrix. Dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed the particle size distribution, storage stability, and thermal stability of the modified MWPU. And the surface reactivity of CF increased significantly after sizing. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of CFREs were tested, and the fracture morphology was observed. The result showed that a continuous and uniform sizing layer is formed on the surface of CF. In particular, the comprehensive performance and interfacial modification effect of the MWPU emulsion outperformed other samples when the 4‐HPM content was 1.0 wt%. Compared with unsized carbon fibers, the IFSS and ILSS are up to 71.30% and 30.81% higher, respectively.

In this study, the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) dye accompanied with the reduction of CO2 was performed in an electrochemical (EC) process by using carbon nanotubes grown on carbon fiber (CNTs/CFM) electrodes as the cathode and anode in a two-compartment electrochemical cell. The growth of CNTs on CFM via chemical vapor deposition led to the significant improvement in physicochemical properties of CNTs/CFM which were beneficial for the EC process. The effects of various operating parameters including supporting electrolytes (KHCO3 and H2SO4), initial concentration of MB (5, 10, 15 and 20 mg L− 1) and applied currents (10, 50 and 100 mA) on the degradation of MB were investigated. The results confirmed the vital influence of applied current and initial concentration of MB while the supporting electrolytes played a minor role in MB degradation. On the contrary, the influence of electrolytes in the performance of CO2 reduction was more significant on the production and selectivity of generated products. The optimal electrochemical system included 0.1 M KHCO3 as the electrolyte and an applied current of 50 mA in anodic cell and CO2 saturated solution in cathodic cell; such a system resulted in the EC degradation efficiency of 72% at the MB initial concentration of 10 mg L− 1 in the anodic cell and production of 4.7 mM cm− 2 CO, 67 mM cm− 2 H2, and 11.3 mg L− 1 oxalic acid in the cathodic cell corresponding to the Faradaic efficiencies of 28, 40 and 4%, respectively. The results of reusability test deduced that the stability of CNTs/CFM was still satisfactory after 4 runs. The results of this study demonstrated the good applicability of CNTs/CFM to be simultaneously used the electrodes for the EC oxidation of dye and the EC reduction of CO2 to obtain valuable compounds.
