Terbium(III)-thiacalix[4]arene nanosensor for highly sensitive intracellular monitoring of temperature changes within the 303–313 K range

Abstract: The work introduces hydrophilic PSS-[Tb2(TCAn)2] nanoparticles to be applied as highly sensitive intracellular temperature nanosensors. The nanoparticles are synthesized by solvent-induced nanoprecipitation of [Tb2(TCAn)2] complexes (TCAn - thiacalix[4]arenes bearing different upper-rim substituents: unsubstituted TCA1, tert-buthyl-substituted TCA2, di- and tetra-brominated TCA3 and TCA4) with the use of polystyrenesulfonate (PSS) as stabilizer. The temperature responsive luminescence behavior of PSS-[Tb2(TCAn… Show more

“…They were capable of achieving 100% exciton utilization efficiency and mitigating efficiency roll-off in OLEDs. To afford blue OLEDs, triazolyl borate with controllable substituents on the ligands of Ce(III) complexes with PLQYs > 95% for the blue 5d-4f transitions in both solid powder and diluted dichloromethane solutions and lifetimes in tens of nanoseconds range were afforded as emitting layer material [Figure 14B] [74] , achieving a maximum external quantum efficiency of 14.1% and a maximum luminance of 33,160 cd•m -2 for the blue OLEDs. These relative findings underscored the potential of lanthanide complexes in OLED applications.…”

“…Both pronounced and reversible temperature-induced changes of the luminescence of the complex in the DMF solutions (Figure S2) are the reason for its choice as the challenging building block of the PSS-stabilized colloids. The PSS-[TbL] colloids were synthesized through the solvent exchange procedure [40] (for more details, see the Exp. Section).…”
