Ternary diagrams SiO2-Al2O3-K2O as tool for the analysis of ceramic materials behavior

Abstract: The present study about ternary diagrams of SiO2-Al2O3-K2O has been conducted from the determination of two possible optimal clay mixtures through hydrometric tests of a company dedicated to the manufacture of masonry products for construction in the North region of Santander in Colombia; this work is the continuation of others carried out previously. In this raw material (clay) the dominant minerals are silica, alumina, iron, potassium, among others, which provide the plasticity and adequate granulometric dis… Show more

“…Also, is evident that the raw materials of Cucuta Company have minor impurities than Ocaña Company [7,33]. In this way, clay aid to obtain an adequate plasticity index, the Al 2 O 3 contributes to the flux, and the SiO 2 as a stabilizer [34].…”

“…The PET percentage was established at 10%, 15%, and 20% to substitute the total amount of sand established for the resistance required for non-structural masonry according to the NTC-4076 [21]. Likewise, the substitution was established to the procedure developed by NSR-10 [17], to calculate the initial proportions of the materials used in the mortar, without making adjustments by fluency the estimated calculations were for a 1:4.11 ratio [22].…”
