Tertiary phosphine complexes of the cobalt(III) NN′-ethylenebis(salicylideneiminato) and bisdimethylglyoximato systems

Abstract: Complexes of the types [CosalenPR3]X, [Cosalen(PR3)2]X, [Co(DH)2PPh3X], and [Co(DH)2(PR3)2]ClO4, many of them new, have been prepared and characterized with respect to 1H nmr spectra, ligand field parameters, and equilibrium constants for the formation of the 2:1 salen complexes. 1H chemical shifts appear to be dominated by anisotropic rather than inductive effects, while the relative tertiary phosphine ligand field strengths appear to correlate with the steric requirements of the phosphines as well as their e… Show more

“…In the six-coordinate adduct, when a water or solvent molecule occupies the sixth position, the interaction is very weak [8], resulting in the larger solvated form of the Salen complex, and a lower formation constant compared to Me 2 Salen, despite the higher steric factor of Me 2 Salen vs. that of Salen. This trend is seen for Me 2 Salen and Salen of cobalt(III) complexes with P(Bu 3 ) and PMe 2 Ph as axial ligands, as well [9,10].…”

“…The phosphine axial ligand trans effect on the thermodynamics of the five-coordinated Co(III) Schiff base complexes has been studied well [8][9][10][11][12]. The steric and electronic effects of Schiff bases and the axial ligands on equilibrium constants were investigated in our laboratory, previously [10][11][12].…”

“…Co(Salophen) complex (N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-phenylenediaminocobalt(II)) was prepared according to methods previously published. 35,36 The standard solutions were prepared previously for each experiment by appropriate dilution of the stock solutions. All solutions were prepared with water purified in a Purelab Classic System from ELGA (Buckinghamshire, USA) and the actual pH of each solution was determined with a pH meter model Digimed DM-20 (São Paulo, Brazil).…”

“…All the Schiff base ligands were prepared using the known methods [12,[26][27][28]. The M(II) BAE, BBE and BFE complexes were prepared following the literature procedure [26].…”
