“…The increase in age-standardized incidence of testicular cancer in Denmark is consistent with similar changes in a number of other populations of European origin (Coleman et al, 1993), with the possible exception of Switzerland where the age-adjusted incidence rate is high and seems to have been stable in the last 2-3 decades (Levi et al, 1990).…”

“…The variability in the geographical and temporal patterns within Europe is extensive: a 5-fold variation in incidence rates was observed, and there was a steady rise in incidence across populations that varied from 1 to 6% per annum. Rates rose most rapidly in low-risk Spain and intermediate-risk Slovenia, with Switzerland being the exception to the increasing profile, for which rates have been extremely high but stable over several decades, 38 with recent declines additionally suggested in this study. It can be speculated that a leveling off of incidence in high-risk countries may represent a mature phase in the epidemic, relative to lower-risk countries for which this phenomenon might be considered to be at an early phase, with further increases anticipated in forthcoming years.…”

“…The age-specific incidence differs between these two forms, non-seminomas having an age-specific incidence peak in the age group of 25-29 years and the seminomas 35-39 years (Heimdul et al 1990;Schottenfeld et al 1980). The incidence of the two histopathological forms are strongly correlated: populations with a high incidence of seminoma also have a high incidence of nonseminoma and vice versa (Levi et al 1990). This indicates common or similar etiological factors for the two histopathological forms, especially as mixed forms occur quite frequently.…”

“…1992;Wilkinson et al 1992;Osterlind 1986). There are at least two noteworthy exceptions: 1) the incidence in the Afro-American population in the United States is low and do not show any upward trend (Van den Eden & Weiss 1989); 2) an incidence study of testicular cancer trends in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, 1974-1987, showed a stable annual incidence (Levi et al 1990) albeit with one of the highest annual incidences (about 10 per 100,000 males) ever reported. Switzerland, Denmark and New Zealand (Parkin e l al.…”
