Testing CP properties of extra Higgs states at the HL-LHC

Abstract: Extra Higgs states appear in various scenarios beyond the current Standard Model of elementary particles. If discovered at the LHC or future colliders, the question will arise whether CP is violated or conserved in the extended scalar sector. An unambiguous probe of (indirect) CP violation would be the observation that one of the extra Higgs particles is an admixture of a CP-even and a CP-odd state. We discuss the possibility to discover scalar CP violation in this way at the high-luminosity (HL) phase of the … Show more

“…The parameters m 2 ii , λ i =5 are real. The possible complex phases that allow for CP violation belong to the two parameters m 2 12 = |m 2 12 |e iη(m 2 12 ) and λ 5 = |λ 5 |e iη(λ 5 ) [30,31]. The tadpole equations impose a relation between the two complex phases, such that the CP violation can be parametrised ultimately via the parameter η(λ 5 ), the complex phase of λ 5 .…”

“…Recently, we studied a class of THDMs with CP violation in ref. [24], exploring the testability of CP violation at the LHC and evaluating the current constraints on the model parameters, pointing out the importance of the four-lepton final state as "discovery channel". We will make use of the results of [24] to find a viable set of model parameters that can match the current four-lepton excess.…”

“…2 Recently, in ref. [72], the effect of the CP-violating phase in the Higgs sector on the decay of the additional Higgs boson to a tau lepton pair has been discussed at the HL-LHC in the THDM with a softly broken Z 2 symmetry.…”
