Testing fine motor coordination via telehealth: Effects of video characteristics on reliability and validity

Abstract: Background There is limited research about the effects of video quality on the accuracy of assessments of physical function. Methods A repeated measures study design was used to assess reliability and validity of the finger-nose test (FNT) and the finger-tapping test (FTT) carried out with 50 veterans who had impairment in gross and/or fine motor coordination. Videos were scored by expert raters under eight differing conditions, including in-person, high definition video with slow motion review and standard sp… Show more

“…Globalization and the advancement of new electronics increase the possibilities for objectivity and validity of test administration in PE (Gupta, 2021;Blavt, Iedynak, Pityn, Hluhov, Guska, Stadnyk, Zaikin, & Karatnyk, 2022). We will agree with our research that the use of the latest electronic technology in the data collection process eliminates the influence of the human factor on the results of the experiment (Gogoi, 2019;Hoenig, Amis, Edmonds, Morgan, Landerman, & Caves, 2018). This circumstance confirms the research data (Desrosiers, Rochette, & Corriveau, 2005;Chaabouni, Methnani, Al Hadabi, Al Busafi, Al Kitani, Al Jadidi, Samozino, Moalla, & Gmada, 2022) regarding the inadmissibility of interpreting the materials obtained as a result of the experiment, which are obtained by tests with a low level of authenticity.…”

“…Significant correlations were determined as p value < 0.001. ICC was calculated using a two-way fixed effects model (ICC (2, k)) calculated from outputs run in a Two-Way ANOVA without replication (GraphPad Prism v7.00; Walter et al, 1998 ; Hoenig et al, 2017 ; Muyor, 2017 ).…”
