Testosterone therapy and prostate cancer

Abstract: The use of exogenous testosterone to treat hypogonadism in the men with a history of prostate cancer (CaP) remains controversial due to fears of cancer recurrence or progression. Due to the detrimental impact of hypogonadism on patient quality of life, recent work has examined the safety of testosterone therapy (TTh) in men with a history of CaP. In this review, we evaluate the literature with regards to the safety of TTh in men with a history of CaP. TTh results in improvements in quality of life with little … Show more

“…Our method offers the possibility for researchers to quantify testosterone in nails in a simple, applicable way, and document stable long-term trends. For example, it may be useful for identifying changes in testosterone over months for diagnosing various diseases, as well as assessing therapy outcomes (Pastuszak et al 2016). Further development of a method for measuring testosterone in women's nails will aid diagnosing and treating polycystic ovarian disease (Ehrmann et al 1995) 190x142mm (300 x 300 DPI)…”

“…Much evidence published in the two last decades has substantially better clarified the role of T in regulating prostate growth and differentiation [ 57 58 59 60 61 ]. Epidemiological studies have failed to find an association between endogenous T levels and risk of PC.…”

“…We should point out that the testosterone reposition therapy in men is still a controversial topic, especially in the men with a history of prostate cancer ( 41 ). The main concern is that testosterone may accelerate prostate growth not only in benign conditions but also in cancer.…”
