Abstract: The protozoan parasite Giardia intestinalis is one of only a few organisms lacking de novo synthesis of DNA building blocks (deoxyribonucleotides). Instead, the parasite relies exclusively on salvaging deoxyadenosine and other deoxyribonucleosides from its host environment.
