Text Mining: Techniques, Applications and Issues

Abstract

Day-to-day transactions made on digital world, produces a large volume of data which contains some valuable information. But they are not in visible but present in hidden form. These information are extracted by applying mining techniques considering the type of data source. Since most of the data sources are either unstructured or semi-structured nature and available in the form of text such as web pages, CSV files, PDFs, text files and rich text format files. Text mining techniques is used to discover the hidden information, called patters/ trends, from these unstructured text documents. Text mining has become an exciting field of research, and enhances its extraction capability with NLP, AI and machine learning algorithms. In this research paper, the general concept of text mining is discussed along with the procedure of text mining. A focus is also given on the techniques used for text mining and highlighted the application area of text mining. In last of the paper, a brief discussion is made on the challenges and issues of text mining too.
