The 10‐item Perceived Stress Scale as a valid measure of stress perception

Abstract: Differences in stress perception could exist when one considers the socio-cultural aspects that may vary across regions. This highlights the importance of validating, in an Asian sample, a commonly used measure for self-appraised life stress, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS; Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein, 1983). The strength of the PSS is that the respondents are not constrained by a specific list or number of stressors, in recognition of the many sources of stress that individuals experience.
