It has taken me outward from my disciplinary comfort zone of international relations into comparative politics, political philosophy, law, and African studies. In doing so, I have ventured far beyond my own areas of expertise and research networks, and I am greatly indebted to the grace, goodwill, and patience of the many people who have assisted me.
