et al.

Abstract: IntroductionCognitive impairment (CI) is known to be mediated by several risk and protective factors, many of which are potentially modifiable. Therefore, it is important to have up-to-date studies that address a standard assessment of psychosocial, clinical and lifestyle variables.Materials and methodsWe conducted a cross-sectional observational study, with a 24-month timeframe, to estimate the relationship between risk and protective factors associated with dementia, according to the A-to-Z Dementia Knowledg… Show more

“…Therefore, a lack of education can affect the cognitive abilities of an individual. Similarly, depression has been reported as an important risk factor associated with CI in multiple studies [ 20 , 21 , 26 , 27 ]. The positive association between depression and CI may be attributed to the involvement of similar neurological and pathological mechanisms in the development of both conditions.…”

“…The anticholinergic burden has among its main adverse events delirium and cognitive impairment [7]. In contrast, antidepressive agents and benzodiazepines show controversial results [41,42], since they are often prescribed due to AD symptoms. NSAIDs, instead, show promising results, but since we observe the prescribed doses and these drugs are prescribed in this study and taken during specific periods, we cannot rely on that patients are actually taking these drugs every day.…”

“…In this study, the utilization of three tests is deemed instrumental in obtaining a comprehensive understanding of cognitive impairment within our population. Past research demonstrates that employing this methodology has resulted in the diagnosis of 90% of individuals referred to neurology services ( 18 , 27 ). Individuals exhibiting at least one result indicative of SCD on any of the three tests used were subsequently referred to primary care for further assessment, as those with possible SCD following cognitive evaluation were deemed to be at an elevated risk of developing dementia ( 12 ).…”
