The AMIDA Automatic Content Linking Device: Just-in-Time Document Retrieval in Meetings

Abstract: Abstract. The AMIDA Automatic Content Linking Device (ACLD) is a just-in-time document retrieval system for meeting environments. The ACLD listens to a meeting and displays information about the documents from the group's history that are most relevant to what is being said. Participants can view an outline or the entire content of the documents, if they feel that these documents are potentially useful at that moment of the meeting. “…Users also like to see that the system provides links to relevant documents or other information resources related to the issues being discussed in the meeting. These functions have been implemented in the Automatic Content Linking Device (ACLD), a real-time query-free document retrieval system [33]. The ACLD is a system that constantly retrieves items from a document repository, which includes meeting related documents together with excerpts from previous meetings of the group, and displays them to a participant or to all of them; the device can be used online, during a meeting, or off-line, integrated in a meeting browser.…”

“…The application framework considered in this paper is inspired from the Automatic Content Linking Device [24,25,26], which monitors a conversation between its users, for instance within a business meeting, and makes spontaneous recommendations of relevant documents. Our system extends the framework by 125 allowing its users to formulate explicit spoken queries to retrieve documents, in particular to obtain explanations about notions (words, terms, or acronyms)…”

“…The system that we have been building is the Automatic Content Linking Device [23,22], which monitors a conversation between people, such as a business meeting, and allows them to formulate explicit spoken queries in order to retrieve documents from the Web or a specific repository -in this paper, Wikipedia. The users can simply address the system by using a pre-defined unambiguous name, which is robustly recognized by a real-time ASR component [14].…”
