“…By this approach 4-isocyanoanilides have been used to prepare Ag(I) neutral complexes 136a [Ag(X)(CN−C6H4−NHCOR)] (R = Me, X = NO3 − , CF3SO3 − ; R = C9H19, X = NO3 − ) and cationic complexes 136b [Ag(CN−C6H4−NHCOR)2]X (R = Me, X = NO3 − , CF3SO3 − , BF4 − ; R = C9H19, X = NO3 − , H25C12OSO3 − , CF3SO3 − , BF4 − ). 191 Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of methyl derivatives show layered supramolecular structures supported by Ag−O interactions and hydrogen bonds, induced by the amide group and the anionic ligand. Substitution of the methyl group by a nonyl chain in the amide leads to mesomorphic complexes, which display SmA mesophases as expected by the methyl structures, and supported by the presence of H-bonds in the FTIR spectra.…”

“…Despite the versatile chemistry of isonitriles, the field of isocyanoacridines remained completely unexplored until now. The incorporation of the isocyano group has many advantages: it can lower the pK a of AO from 10.5 to around 7.0 yielding a powerful physiological pH probe, the reactive C-N bond can serve as a versatile base for many organic reactions, such as the Ugi reaction 29 , isonitriles easily form complexes with transition metal ions 30 and the related isonitrile complexes of silver(I) are much less studied, in spite of interesting properties such as liquid crystalline behaviour 31,32 .…”

“…[2] While gold(I)isonitrile complexes are well studied, having a number of applications (e.g. deposition of gold films, preparation of liquid crystalline phases), [4][5] the related isonitrile complexes of silver(I) are much less studied, in spite of interesting properties such as liquid crystalline behaviour, [6][7] or luminescence both in liquid and solid phase. [8] The structure of the silver(I)-isonitrile complexes is an interesting issue.…”
