PurposeThe purpose of this study was to determine how environmentally specific transformational leadership (ETFL), green training (GT) and psychological green climate (PGC) affect environmental passion (EP) of employees which leads to pro-environmental behaviors (PEBs).Design/methodology/approachThe context of the study was set in textile industry of Pakistan which holds a promising future in the international markets as an emerging export-based industry. Using purposive sampling technique, cross-sectional self-report data were collected from the employees of textile exporting firms (n = 239) of Pakistan. Hypotheses were tested using PLS-SEM.FindingsThe findings revealed that ETFL and PGC act as important predictors of EP, whereas GT plays no role in influencing EP. EP predicts green behavioral intention (GBI) of employees, in turn, GBI predicts employees' PEBs. Further, mediation analyses revealed that EP and GBI sequentially mediated the link between PGC and PEBs.Research limitations/implicationsThe present study is not free from its limitations. First, the study adopted cross-sectional design that prevents the causal inferences which the researcher can make from the population. Second, the present study adopted purposive sampling technique which is a non-probability sampling technique. Third, the constructs of this study were assessed with self-report measures which are associated with social desirability bias (Podsakoff and Organ, 1986) or common-method variance (Podsakoff et al., 2003). Hence, this research suggests on the future direction of research based on these limitations.Practical implicationsAs per the results of this study, it is also suggested that managers may focus more on the overall organizational and psychological climate rather than on leadership styles alone. While conducting training, the leaders must pay close attention to training objectives to ensure that they do not lead to counterproductive behaviors.Originality/valueThis research adds to the literature in the area of PEBs at micro-level by focusing on how and why employees engage in PEBs.

The subject literature around the world puts a strong emphasis on the discrepancy between the positive attitude towards the idea of sustainability and consumer behaviour. These issues are the subject matter of this paper, which aims at both the identification and evaluation of selected aspects of knowledge, attitudes and eco-friendly behaviour of consumers connected with their choice of foods. The authors made an attempt of answering the question, to what extent do the level of knowledge and the declared eco-friendly attitudes have an impact on specific purchasing decisions. In the empirical observations, the conceptual model of the effects of the environment (knowledge, attitude, behaviour) on the customers' ecological awareness was used. The analysis conducted on the basis of this model indicated that stimulating the demand for ecological products is implemented mainly by the processes of raising awareness, which leads to expanding the consumers’ knowledge concerning ecological farming and eco-friendly foods. In such a way the consumer awareness is built, especially by educational campaigns and promoting/endorsing the ecological foods targeted at young consumers.

Barriers of Consumer Behavior for the Development of the Circular Economy: Empirical Evidence from Russia

This paper contributes to the literature on sustainable consumption by in-depth analysis of the factors affecting the probability of 57 different practices of proenvironmental behavior (PEBs) in Russia. The set of studied PEBs includes not only popular energy-saving and waste-management practices but also more circular patterns of plastic consumption, shopping, and city mobility. To study real and potential barriers to greening consumer behavior models, we conducted a survey of 623 respondents using a questionnaire developed based on a comparative analysis of similar studies conducted in other countries. The processing of the survey results was carried out using nonparametric statistics due to the absence of a normal distribution of the sample for most of the studied characteristics. The results of the study revealed that the main barriers to sustainable consumption in Russia are the lack of appropriate infrastructure as well as a lack of knowledge. Infrastructural barriers in some situations makes sustainable consumer behavior impossible or inconvenient (in this case, preference is given to other types of consumption), or in some cases necessitates spending additional time and money (then sustainable consumer behavior is not completely denied but practiced less often).
