The Analysis of Serum Vitamin D (25[OH]D) Level in Psoriasis Patients Comparing with Control Subjects

Abstract: Background: Vitamin D has been shown to have an immunomodulatory effect, and previous studies have proven that vitamin D deficiency contributed to several autoimmune diseases, including psoriasis. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine serum vitamin D levels in psoriasis vulgaris patients and compare them with control subjects. Methods: The research samples were sixteen adults with psoriasis vulgaris and 16 control subjects. Blood samples were taken, and the serum 25 (OH) D levels were measured us… Show more

“…Additionally, we identified that low levels of circulating 25(OH)D3 and C3-epi-25(OH)D3 increase the risk of psoriasis, highlighting their potential causal effects for the first time. 14 Vitamin D receptors are widely distributed in immune cells, suggesting its role in modulating immune responses. In psoriasis, abnormal vitamin D metabolism may activate T cells and regulate cytokine secretion.…”

“…Moreover these studies were limited by small sample size and clinical and methodological heterogenecity among the study groups. 4 Further, among case-control studies published between 2019 and 2021, few of them showed significant association between 25(OH) D levels and psoriasis, [5][6][7][8][9] while other remaining studies did not show a significant association between level of 25(OH) D with psoriasis. [10][11][12][13][14] Hence in conclusion from the literature review of clinical studies available to date, the association between psoriasis and vitamin D is still controversial.…”
