The Analysis on Domestic Research Trends for Convergence and Integrated Science Education

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate research trends about convergence and integrated science education through the analysis of theses published from January, 2000 to June, 2011 in the scientific journals. For the analysis of the theses, we set standards of analysis including the number of theses, integrated types, research methods, the designs of study and the objects of study. The number of theses used for the analysis were 110 volumes and these were limited to the Journal of KASE (The Korean Associat… Show more

“…Other authors have studied the trends in SER with more specialized topical interests. These include research trend analyses on integrated STEM education (Kwon & Ahn, 2012), science learning progressions (Maeng, Seong, & Jang, 2013), science writing (Shin & Choi, 2014), science learning (Kim et al, 2015), and assessment of science learning (Chung & Shin, 2016 Education (TME) and Communications of Mathematical Education (CME) cover a wide range of topics on all aspects of mathematics education, both published by KSME. TME is the oldest MER journal in Korea, while CME is the third most prolific MER journal, publishing an average of 30.2 articles per year.…”

“…However, in order to effectively apply STEAM education, the perceptions and demands of in-service teachers on STEAM education need to be continually examined. However, many previous studies have been conducted on teachers whose subjects of interest include science (Chae & Noh, 2015;Han & Lee, 2012;Jung, Jeon, & Lee, 2015;Kwon & Ahn, 2012;Kwon & Na, 2010;Lim, Kim, & Lee, 2014;Lim & Oh, 2015;Lee, Park, & Kim, 2013;Shin, 2013;Shin & Han, 2011;Son, Jung, Kwon, Kim, & Kim, 2012). This is also due to the fact that STEAM education is treated as a part of the science curriculum, and that STEAM training is mostly directed at science teachers.…”
