The Analytical Design of a Folded Waveguide Traveling Wave Tube and Small Signal Gain Analysis Using Madey's Theorem

Abstract: Abstract-We are developing an analytical model for the design of the folded waveguide traveling wave tube (FWTWT). This analytical model provides the physical view for rapid design optimization of the FWTWT. The design and analysis of the FWTWT using the spatial harmonics method of the TE 10 mode of the EM wave are presented. An X-band FWTWT is used to verify this method. The normalized dispersion and beam line equations are used to simplify the design process so that the FWTWT can be designed to operate at an… Show more

“…The waveguide problem arises in many different contexts in electromagnetics, see e.g., [8,14,23,32,38,41] for some recent studies. The model problems are extracted from the testbed collection described in [1]; it was proposed with the primary purpose of testing numerical algorithms for solving difficult non-Hermitian eigenvalue problems in real applications.…”

“…The cold-test parameters for series of pitches were simulated by Ansoft HFSS which can get a credible result [17,18]. The optimization parameters were recorded in x and the initial variable was generated by randomly changing each parameter.…”

“…As the key device, the amplifier critically determines the performance of the whole inter-satellite systems. Due to its outstanding combined performances in power capacity and bandwidth, traveling-wave tube (TWT) is one of the most important millimeter-wave amplifiers [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. As a full-metal structure, coupledcavity has been shown to have excellent performance in power capability.…”
