The Antioxidant Activity of Low Doses of Moringa Seeds (Moringa oleifera Lam.) in Hypercholesterolemic Male Rats

Abstract: The present study evaluated the antioxidant activity of two low doses of moringa seed powder (50 and 100 mg/kg body weight) in hypercholesterolemic male rats. Twenty-four albino rats were divided into four groups. The first group (G1) was the negative control group and was fed fat-rich diet. The second group (G2) was the hypercholesterolemic positive control and was fed 2% cholesterol in the fat-rich diet. The third group (G3) and the fourth group (G4) were also fed 2% cholesterol in the fat-rich diet and co-s… Show more

“…Our study showed no differences of liver scoring between moringa and moringa + exercise groups compared to control group. This result was in line with another study that proved that a low dose of moringa has antioxidant activity (El Rabey et al, 2018).…”

“…Results were expressed as mean ± SD and presented in tabular form. The result of serum biochemical analysis including creatinine, Urea, AST and ALT obtained from the experimental groups were compared with the of control groups using paired two-tailed student's t-test for matched samples and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons of three (3) or more values of the parameters in the various groups.…”

“…Supplementation with Moringa seeds, leaf or their extract has several health benefits as reported [2]. Moringa root, wood lower the deposition of stone forming constituents in the kidneys of calculogenic rats and reduced the elevated urinary oxalate as a result of ethylene glycol treatment [3]. Moringa ameliorated liver fibrosis in rats, reduces liver damage, reverse the symptoms of liver fibrosis as well as decreased the CCl 4 induced elevation of serum aminotransferase activities and globulin level.…”

“…Several health benefits of Moringa seeds, leaf or their extract as supplement has been reported [9]. The root, wood of this plant was shown to lower the deposition of stone forming constituents in the kidneys of calculogenic rats and reduced the elevated urinary oxalate as a result of ethylene glycol treatment [10]. Ameliorative effect of Moringa in induced liver fibrotic rats protect the liver from damage, symptoms of liver fibrosis was reverse few days after the used of this plant extract.…”
