The Antithesis of Entropy: Biosemiotic Communication from Genetics to Human Language with Special Emphasis on the Immune Systems

Abstract: Entropy can be defined as the antithesis of well-formed true reports that agree with each other and with the material facts accessible through the experience of one or more competent observers. The abstract convergence (strictly formal, logical agreement) of true narrative representations (TNRs)-ordinary valid reports of facts of experience-makes them formally more complete than fictions, errors, lies, and nonsense. A limit of absolute entropy is theoretically reached if all resemblance to a TNR is lost. As ar… Show more

“…We direct our attention to molecular structural entropy of water and biomolecules, as opposed to systems entropy. Hence, we do not wish to confuse our use of the word entropy with the concept of biosemiotic entropy, as defined by Oller [1], although molecular structural entropy would logically be a component of a nested hierarchical model of biological organization, perhaps providing the means for both energy and information flow.…”

“…Autism, and, more broadly, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a condition characterized by impaired cognitive and social skills [1], along with a compromised immune function [2][3][4][5]. It can now no longer be denied that the incidence of ASD is alarmingly on the rise in the U.S. [6].…”

“…Indeed, entropy in some areas of the nonprotein coding regions of the genome frequently have powerfully negative consequences leading to human disease and cancer, not because they lead to aberrations in resultant proteins, but because otherwise healthy genes are misregulated (silenced, minimally expressed, or overexpressed compared to normal cells of the same type). Beyond the obvious importance and centrality of gene-mediated biosemiotic information flow, many other layers of biosemiosis are at work in a maximally integrated fashion, including cell signaling, the immune system [13], physiological homeostasis [90], environmental responses, membrane signaling [91], and water coherence domains [92], to name a few. These must be considered both individually and collectively to obtain a full understanding of cancer etiology.…”
