The Application of the Simulation Method in the in Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education Institutions, the Cognitive Linguistic Approach

Abstract: This article presents the results of the research aimed at proving the efficiency of using the simulation method in combination with the cognitive linguistic approach in teaching students a foreign language. The experimental group students studied the foreign (English) language course during the semester of the 2019-2020 academic year using simulations. The methodology consisted of the performance of roles by the students who actively interacted for the implementation of assigned tasks. Kravchenko's cognitive … Show more

“…In the process of experimental work, Devos et al (2021) found that the share of students in the experimental group with a high and sufficient level of success in learning a foreign language doubled, exceeding the same indicator in the control group of language learning after using simulations. After the experimental work in the experimental group, indicators for all criteria of the level of foreign language CC increased.…”

“…Since, according to her, the incorporation of virtual environments into teacher classes allows students to obtain meaningful learning and develop it in an appropriate context. Closely, Devos et al (2021) defined simulation "as a method to teaching a language" (p. 2). Besides, those researchers said that simulation is the ability to recreate or simulate professional activities or situations from real-life that students should develop depending on the functions of a foreign language (Devos et al, 2021, p.2).…”

“…In another study also in Spain, Carrió-Pastor and Skorczynska (2015, p. 32) report the merits of online collaboration simulation at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students report higher level of motivation in learning and praised the online simulation as “enriching.” In the Ukraine context, the study of Devos et al (2021) empirically investigate the use of simulation methods in combination with the cognitive linguistic approach in foreign language teaching. The researchers use experimental and control groups to compare the teaching effects.…”
