This paper proposes a series arc fault detection algorithm which incorporates peak voltage and harmonic current detectors for single-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifiers. The series arc fault model is also proposed to analyze the phenomenon of the arc fault and detection algorithm. For arc detection, the virtual dq transformation is utilized to detect the peak input voltage. In addition, multiple combinations of low-and high-pass filters are applied to extract the specific harmonic components which show the characteristics of the series arc fault conditions. The proposed model and the arc detection method are experimentally verified through a boost PFC rectifier prototype operating under the grid-tied condition with an artificial arc generator manufactured under the guidelines for the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1699 standard.

This study is on the method of the detection for flame and series arc which can be happened at poor contact point added a vibration in part of contact point of low voltage line. In general, the causes of electric fire are over current, short circuit, poor contact, ect. The over-current or short circuit among those causes is detected by measuring a instant current value, but poor contact is difficult to detect by measuring a excessive value of the voltage and current and a distortion of waveforms. And therefore, in this paper, it is studied on the optimal technique of the arc judgement using fuzzy logic and MDET (Multi Dimension Estimation Technique). And it carries out the simulation for arc detection and the experiment for controller and load test. In result, the controller and detection algoristhm, is classified with normal wave and abnormal arc wave without relation with each loads and so the controller can detect a series arc successfully.

SUMMARYSeries arcing, which can occur at any point of a line or neutral conductor between the switchboard and a load (mechanically damaged conductor, clamps in the switchboard or in the equipment, connections in outlets, receptacles, and switches), is the most frequent electrical cause of fire. This paper presents an original and simple algorithm for the detection of series arcing, based on permanent spectral analysis of the circuit current signal. A prototype of a simple and cheap detector of series arcing has also been developed. The target group for the application of the protective device are residential premises, the most numerous and most critical buildings in which series arcing occurs. In such buildings a range of potential loads is limited, which enables the application of the presented simple algorithm. Its applicability is confirmed through an extensive set of tests.
