The Assessment of Soil Fertility Index for Evaluation of Rice Production in Karanganyar Regency

Abstract: Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a very important food crop because the result is used as a staple food for residents in Indonesia. Higher food fulfillment leads to the increase of rice production of the Mojogedang sub-district. Paddy fields that have high soil fertility will produce good rice productivity. Rice fields in Mojogedang Sub-district are managed with organic systems and conventional systems, the management of different fields of rice field certainly affects the level of fertility in the paddy fields so it… Show more

“…The lowest average SFI is found in inorganic rice fields systems with an index of 0.59. The higher SFI in organic farming rice fields than inorganic is in line with the findings of research undertaken by Prastiwi et al (2021). According to Widijanto et al (2021) the high and low soil fertility index depends on the soil management carried out and the chemical properties of the soil.…”

“…In addition, information on the categorization of soil fertility levels in an area can be used as a guideline for carrying out fertilization activities in agricultural cultivation (Romadhon and Hermiyanto, 2021). Previous research examined the SFI in two types of rice field farming systems with Entisols soil types, such as those conducted by Prastiwi et al (2021), which gave the result that the SFI of rice fields with organic farming (0.96) was higher than inorganic farming (with an index of 0.85). In addition, previous studies only examined soil chemical properties, such as research undertaken by Sukristiyonubowo et al (2019), which produced data showing that the application of the inorganic system in Sambirejo Village, Sragen Regency on Vertisols soil also resulted in lower soil chemical properties compared to the organic system.…”

“…Rainfall requirement for rice used to determine the soil fertility score. The PCA analysis generated the Minimum Soil Fertility Index (MSFI) which represents all the soil fertility indicator values used (Prastiwi et al, 2021). For PC 1 there were two indicators that represented the highest weight values for soil fertility, namely Ca and CEC.…”

“…The most commonly measured soil fertility index indicators are pH, SOC, total N, available P, available K, CEC, and base saturation (BS) (Dewi et al, 2022). Soil fertility is the soil's potential to make available sufficient nutrients in a form that is available for the plants (Prastiwi et al, 2021). Green manure not only increases soil organic matter content but also increases the nutrients in the soil, thereby improving the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil, which in turn has a positive impact on soil production and helps to protect the soil from erosion.…”
