The Association Between Trajectories of Perceived Unmet Needs for Home and Community-Based Services and Life Satisfaction Among Chinese Older Adults: The Moderating Effect of Psychological Resilience

Huijun Liu,
Bei Wu
et al.

Abstract: This study examined whether trajectories of perceived unmet needs for Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) were associated with life satisfaction among Chinese older adults and whether the association was moderated by psychological resilience. Data came from five waves (2005-2018) of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). Latent class growth analysis revealed three distinct trajectories of perceived unmet HCBS needs: “increasing” ( n = 977, 36.24%), “persistent” ( n = 570, 21.14%), and … Show more

“…Among the 2660 respondents participating in the followup study, missing values for certain time-invariant covariates (e.g., years of schooling and primary occupation) were imputed using available data from preceding waves. To address the absence of data for other covariates, we applied the multiple imputation by chained equations (MICE) technique with 20 imputed datasets for estimation [50]. Concerning incomplete longitudinal data on accessibility to medical care, LCGM estimated the parameters of latent trajectories using the full information maximum likelihood (FIML) approach in the Mplus software.…”

“…Good psychological resilience is an important basis for all behaviors of the older adult/adults, which can provide intrinsic motivation for their behaviors and strengthen the effect of healthy behaviors. ( 11 , 21 ). Ultimately, this is conducive to improving the overall survival of the oldest-old.…”
