“…Previous association studies have revealed that rs187084 is associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis 22 , sepsis 23 and chronic periodontitis 24 . Although the rs352162 polymorphism was significantly related to the risk of MODS in trauma patients, the association of rs187084 and rs352162 appeared less strong in terms of their effect on cytokine production and sepsis morbidity rate.…”

“…The severity of the response to GAS varies by patient [93-95] and the level of host cytokine production is correlated with the severity of disease [93, 96-100]. Of patients with previous postpartum infections, there were significant changes in allele frequencies compared to control patients for TLR9, hsp70 and IL-1β, suggesting that innate immune response gene polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to severe GAS puerperal sepsis [101]. These studies have helped to clarify some of the host immune factors that influence infection risk, but further research is needed to clarify genetic predispositions of pregnant and postpartum women to GAS infection (or its complications).…”

“…A study on polymorphisms of innate immune response genes done in Utah found the frequency of the A allele of the HSP70 1267A > G polymorphism to be significantly higher in those with puerperal sepsis than matched controls. [19] This may suggest a higher frequency of polymorphisms in those with dysregulated inflammation as in sepsis.…”
