The Association Stipeto-Convolvuletum Compacti ASS. Nova in Kosovo

Abstract: Serpentine vegetation of Kosovo represents a diversity which has not been sufficiently explored, yet. Kosovo's serpentine is spread in different parts of Kosovo at the altitudes of 400-2100 m. Large complexes with serpentine are found in the north of Kosovo, but the southern part of Kosovo is also rich in serpentine rocks and in endemic species.Using the principles and methods of the Zürich-Montpellier School we have explored the serpentine flora and vegetation of Gurana, an area in the south-east of Kosovo ne… Show more

“…Numerous phytosociological studies have been con- Comparatively little data exist on the diversity of ultramafic communities in cool temperate sites of the Balkan region. Several associations, which belong to t h ee n d e m i co r d e rHalacsyetalia sendtneri,w e r ed i scribed from the eastern and central part of ultramafic grasslands of western Balkans (Ritter-Studnicˇka 1970) and from the south-eastern part of Kosovo (Blecˇic´et al 1969;Jovanovic´et al 1992;Millaku et al 2011). “…The closest species from a phylogenetic point of view (Carine, 2005) is C. compactus Boiss., an endemic plant of the eastern Mediterranean that can be found on serpentinite outcrops (Millaku, Krasniqi & Rexhepi, 2011). Convolvulus compactus can be found on both serpentinites (Millaku et al, 2011) andlimestones (Aykurt &Sümbül, 2011 (Aydogdu et al, 1994).…”
