Igneous intrusions in sedimentary basins are commonly related with mineralogical association changes in host-rock. At Sapopema region (Paraná State, southern Brazil), an extensive diabase sill (associated to Serra Geral Formation) was emplaced in pelitic-carbonate succession during post-Triassic. The sedimentary host-rock association includes mostly shale, siltstone and carbonate of the Permian Irati Formation. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) data revealed that heat transfer was not enough to cause modifications in mineral assemblage of the Taquaral Member (quartz + albite + muscovite + illite + kaolinite + chlorite). However, mineralogical content from Assistência Member presented changes probably caused by the intrusion of diabase sill (talc + pyrophyllite + calcite). Talc and calcite were formed due to the reaction between dolomite and quartz, while pyrophyllite was the product of reaction between kaolinite and quartz. EFEITOS DA INTRUSÃO IGNEA NA COMPOSIÇÃO MINERALÓGICA DA FORMAÇÃO IRATI, BACIA DO PARANÁ, SAPOPEMA (PR), SUL DO BRASIL ResumoAs intrusões ígneas em bacias sedimentares dão origem em geral a alterações mineralógicas da rocha hospedeira. Na região de Sapopema (Estado do Paraná, sul do Brasil), uma extensa soleira de diabásio (associada à Formação Serra Geral) pós-Triássica, foi intrudida numa sucessão sedimentar constituída por pelitos e carbonatos. A associação de rochas sedimentares hospedeiras, era principalmente constituída por folhelho, siltito e carbonato da Formação Irati, do Permiano. Dados de difração de raios X (DRX), microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e espectroscopia de energia dispersiva (EDS) revelaram que a transferência de calor não foi suficiente para causar modificações na composição mineralógica do membro Taquaral (quartzo + albita + moscovita + ilita + caulinita + clorita). No entanto, o conteúdo mineralógico do Membro Assistência apresentou alterações, provavelmente causadas pela intrusão do diabásio (talco + pirofilita + calcita). O talco e a calcita foram formados devido à reação entre dolomita e quartzo, enquanto a pirofilita foi o produto da reação entre a caulinita e o quartzo. Palavras-chave: Bacia Sedimentar. O petróleo ainda será a principal fonte de energia da humanidade por, no mínimo, 50 anos. O Brasil já é e certamente será um provedor ainda mais importante desta matéria prima durante décadas. Há muitas bacias com grande potencial ainda intactas e muitas áreas ainda não exploradas e outras que já possuem reservas e produção. O objetivo deste trabalho é fazer previsões sobre o potencial petrolífero remanescente das bacias sedimentares do Brasil. As previsões são feitas com base no enorme acervo de dados acumulado nos 83 anos de história da exploração petrolífera brasileira, com base nos conceitos mais atualizados da ciência da geologia do petróleo, e, principalmente, com base em minha experiência de 45 anos de atividade no ramo. Nossa previsão final, para o potencial remanescente de petróleo (potencial de recursos prospectivos, identificados ou não, mas ainda não descobertos) de todas as bacias brasileiras fica na faixa de 50-100 bilhões de barris de óleo equivalente recuperável (boer). As bacias que mais deverão contribuir para a realização deste potencial serão Santos/Campos, Pará-Maranhão/Foz do Amazonas/Barreirinhas, Pelotas e Paraná. Em menor escala, mas ainda importantes, Sergipe-Alagoas, Espírito Santo, Camamu-Almada, Solimões e Parnaíba. Temos plena consciência de que a Geologia é uma ciência complexa e surpreendente. Dados novos, tecnologias inovadoras e conceitos criativos nunca dantes imaginados poderão facilmente destruir (para melhor ou para pior) tais previsões.

The Parnaiba Basin is a Paleozoic to Mesozoic intraplate volcano-sedimentary basin where the Pimenteiras Formation (Devonian) is the main sequence with potential of hydrocarbon generation, mostly natural gas. The present paper evaluates the potential of hydrocarbon generation of Pimenteiras Formation based on Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Rock-Eval pyrolysis parameters. In this work, 1077 shale samples of the Pimenteiras Formation distributed in 32 wells were evaluated. The TOC content varies between 0.1 to 4.7 wt.%, partially reflecting the accumulation and preservation rates of the organic matter in marine and coastal depositional environments controlled by regressive-transgressive cycles. The oxic and anoxic conditions vary significantly with deposition in this situation, which were evidenced by HI and OI variations through sample profiles. In the north and center of the basin, the Pimenteiras Formation has a higher potential for hydrocarbon generation relative to the south, probably due to higher anoxic conditions during deposition. The Hydrogen Index indicates the predominance of kerogen types II and III with minor occurrences of types I and IV. The Tmax values indicate general immature conditions and locally postmature, where the lowest temperatures represent the basin´s burial history, whereas the higher ones were influenced by igneous intrusions and thermogenic anomalies related to the Transbrasiliano Lineament. In addition, the excessive heat around the intrusions altered the Rock-Eval pyrolysis parameters as well as the type of organic matter, resulting in a relative increase of the kerogen types III and IV, which explains the great potential for gas generation in this basin.
