Objectives:To audit the use of compression sutures for the management of massive postpartum haemorrhage and compare outcomes to those documented in the literature.Design: Retrospective study. • In an unselected case series audit in a regional obstetric training unit, the efficacy of uterine compression sutures appeared to be lower than that reported in the literature. Implications for clinical practice or policy • Uterine compression sutures should be adopted as part of the management of severe postpartum haemorrhage in local obstetric units. Contingent treatment protocols for further interventions should be available if compression sutures fail.
