The term termitophile has been used, basically, in two different ways (Kistner, 1969): (1) termitophiles sensu lato, for animals other than termites that live inside the nest of termites (e.g., Silvestri, 1903); and (2) termitophiles sensu stricto, used for animals, other than termites, that have obligatory relationships to the termite society, spending at least part of their life cycle within the termite colony (e.g., Wilson, 1971).
