The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure: A Feasible Multidisciplinary Outcome Measure for Pediatric Telerehabilitation

Abstract: This study describes the feasibility of using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) as a multidisciplinaryoutcome measure for pediatric telerehabilitation (TR). The COPM was administered at monthly time points over four months. A follow-up survey was conducted with the therapists to assess clinical utility of the COPM. Seventy-three percent of the children seen in TR > one month had at least two administrations of the COPM. Eighty percent of therapists agreed or strongly agreed that the COPM … Show more

“…This study was a pilot and was underpowered, with 58 participants required to demonstrate a generalizable difference, but only 15 were included. The outcomes were measured with the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), which measures patient ability, functional impairment, and satisfaction with function [ 14 ], and ABILHAND-kids, which is a parent-completed questionnaire grading the child’s ability to complete tasks. Children were randomized to usual care or the intervention, which consisted of a noncompetitive and noncollaborative computer-based game, customized for arm rehabilitation for children with CP.…”

“…The study results illustrated that the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) is considered a feasible measure that is perceived positively by professional pediatric therapists [33]. Around 83% of the therapists agreed or strongly agreed that COPM is easy to use and reasonable in a given period of time and can be used with children of different conditions, as shown in Table 3 [33]. The average rating for the satisfaction with the therapy was 4.7 out of 5, and it was 4.78 out of 5 for intelligibility.…”

“…Tanner, Grinde and McCormick, 2021 conducted a cross-sectional study in Canada on 86 children with different conditions who required PT. The authors included both boys and girls in their study sample [33]. The study results illustrated that the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) is considered a feasible measure that is perceived positively by professional pediatric therapists [33].…”
