The Canadian–US Relationship in the First Year of Biden’s Presidency: Expectations and Reality

Abstract: The beginning of Biden’s presidency caused inflated expectations in Canada, not all of which were destined to come true. The main event of 2021 in Canadian–US relations was the signing of a Roadmap for a Renewed US–Canada Partnership, which was seriously damaged during the presidency of Donald Trump. The past year has shown that J. Biden, like his predecessor D. Trump, is an economic nationalist committed to “Buy American,” who is not inclined to make trade and economic concessions even to the closest allies.
