The capacities of education in overcoming the fear of unemployment in the context of the COVID crisis

Abstract

The goal of this empirical research is to study and examine the capacities of education in overcoming the fear of job loss in times of crisis, such as the COVID pandemic. We have obtained data from a sample comprising 428 employed subjects on the territory of Belgrade during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the research provide an answer to the following questions: how prevalent is the fear of job loss in the subjects' opinion; what are the educational interventions the subjects participated in to overcome the fear of job loss and what are the capacities of education in overcoming this kind of fear, in their opinion. Additionally, the obtained data demonstrate that the research subjects have had more participation in educational interventions, predominantly in the sphere of obtaining information and counseling, and training to a lesser degree. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the fear of job loss is more pronounced in employees with lower levels of education and that the more highly educated employees hold in higher regard the capacities of education in overcoming the fear of job loss.
