Abstract:There is a growing acknowledgment of the role of acoustics in vocal registration. While the role of laryngeal biomechanics across the range of the voice will remain an important subject of ongoing research, this present article suggests an even more prominent role for acoustic registration, both for our understanding of the mechanisms of registration as well as for effective heuristic pedagogic strategies in addressing them.
