“…Patients with positive anti‐HCV antibody test results had unfavorable demographic characteristics such as older age and a higher prevalence of diabetes and hypertension than those with negative anti‐HCV antibody test results. Previous nationwide studies in South Korea have also shown that the prevalence of positive anti‐HCV antibody test results was higher in older patients 3,15 and the proportion of comorbidities increased with age, especially the proportion of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as hypertension and DM 15 . Therefore, careful medical follow‐up is necessary for these patients for properly management of their comorbidities.…”

“…In a cancer screening cohort study, only 34.9% of HCV carriers were aware of their infection status [ 26 ]. In a nationwide multicenter study, wherein linkage to care was analyzed, 72.8% patients received antiviral treatment when HCV viremia was identified [ 27 ]. In a nationwide telephonic interview, the treatment rate was 80% among people who reported positive results for HCV [ 12 ].…”

“…In South Korea, the anti-HCV prevalence adjusted for age, sex, and area among 291,314 health examinees (≥20 years of age) was 0.78% in 2009 and 0.6% in 2015. 15,16 The anti-HCV prevalence increased with age, and it was higher in females (0.83%) than in males (0.75%), showing intranational geographic difference: a higher prevalence (1.53% to 2.07%) in the southern coastal area. More than 90% of Korean patients with chronic HCV infection were over 40 years of age, and more than half of the patients were asymptomatic or showing alanine aminotransferase levels within normal limits at their diagnosis of chronic hepatitis C. The major HCV genotypes are 1b (48%) and 2 (46%).…”

“…18,25,26 In this study, the anti-HCV positive rate among the respondents was unexpectedly high (11.0%, 10/91) considering that current anti-HCV prevalence among the Korean adult population of 0.6% to 0.8%. 15,16 It may be related to the inherent limitation of telephone survey and its low response rate. In our study, the response rate of the telephone survey was 17%, however, it was a relatively higher rate compared to those in the other surveys on many political or economic issues: general response rate in telephone survey is within the rage of 10% to 20% according to Gallop Korea.…”
