The characteristics of serum circulating immune complexes of patients with atopic asthma with different severity degree

Abstract: Aim. To evaluate the serum level of pathogenic circulating immune complexes in patients with mild and severe atopic bronchial asthma. Methods. Serum samples of patients with atopic asthma of mild persistent (30 patients) and severe persistent (20 patients) forms were analyzed. The control group consisted of 15 healthy volunteers. To detect the giant, large, medium and small-sized serum immune complexes, 3, 3.5, 4 and 7% polyethyleneglycol-6000 solutions were used. For quantitative evaluation … Show more

“…At the same time, the pathogenicity coefficient (C4/C3 ratio) in patients was 2 times higher mainly due to the increase in low molecular weight complexes, which worse than complement large complexes activate complement, as a result of which they circulate for a long time blood, are deposited in organs and tissues, causing inflammation or suppression of the immune system [16]. A significant increase in the level of small and medium circulating immune complexes is observed in acute processes and correlates with the severity of the disease [16].…”

“…One of the most important functions of immunoglobulins (antibodies) is antigen binding and the formation of immune complexes, which should result in neutralization or elimination of the antigen [10]. Normally, circulating immune complexes (CICs) are rapidly eliminated from the blood.…”

“…At the same time, CICs often play an important role in the pathogenesis of the disease, and their long-term circulation in the organism correlates with the duration and severity of the pathological process. This is especially true for small and medium CICs, an increase in the blood level of which may indicate a predisposition to the development of immunopathological states [10][11][12].…”
