“…Powdered samples (Kobe C3mix-3 and Maralinga) were also analyzed by instrumental photon activation analysis (IPAA). PGA The samples were put into thin fluorinated ethylene propylene resin film bags and were irradiated at the prompt gamma ray analyzing system (Yonezawa et al, 1993) for about 2 hours by a cold neutron beam (flux: 1.4 × 10 8 n cm -2 s -1 ) guided out from a research reactor JRR-3M at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute. The neu-4a), which are voluminous and irregularly shaped.…”

“…The neu-4a), which are voluminous and irregularly shaped. In determining absolute contents, an error due to the fluctuation of neutron beam flux (normally, 2.5% in one day; Yonezawa et al, 1993) was not considered. Such an error is not involved in the internal mono-standard method.…”

“…The present PGA system was designed aiming at a low 7-ray background count; the achieved 7-ray background is far lower than that for the previous PGA systems. 9,11 In spite of the low 7-ray background, prompt 7-rays of H, C, N, F, Al and Cl, and decay 7-rays of 207Bi were found in the spectrum measured for FEP films without any samples. The prompt 7-rays of H, C, N, F, Al and Cl were from FEP film and other constructing materials, and the decay 7-rays of 207Bi were from the BGO detectors.…”

“…The Ge detector was surrounded by a bismuth germanium oxide (BGO) detector so that gamma-rays due to Compton scattering of high-energy prompt gamma-rays would be effectively suppressed by measuring the coincident signals from Ge and BGO detectors. 8 To monitor the change in the neutron flux throughout the course of the experiments, a Ti foil was irradiated, and its prompt gamma-rays were counted at regular intervals. Prompt gamma-ray intensities measured on different days were normalized to the average count-rate of the 341.7 and 1381.7 keV gamma-rays of Ti measured with each system of TNPGA and CNPGA.…”
