This theoretical perspective paper interprets (un) known-(un) known risk quadrants as formed from abstract and concrete risk knowledge. It presents these quadrants as useful, both for categorising risk forecasting challenges against levels of abstract and concrete risk knowledge typically available, and for psychometric research measuring perceived levels of abstract and concrete risk knowledge available for forecasting. Drawing on some cybersecurity risk examples, a case is made for refocusing risk management forecasting effort towards raising unknown-unknowns into known-knowns. We propose achieving this by developing the 'boosted risk radar' as organisational practice where suitably 'risk intelligent' managers gather 'risk intelligence information', such that the 'risk intelligent organisation' can purposefully co-develop both abstract and concrete risk forecasting knowledge. We illustrate what this can entail in simple practice terms within organisations.

Effect of perceived default risk and accounting information quality on the decision to grant credit to SMEs

The present study analyses the influence that perceived default risk and accounting information quality have on the process of credit granting to SMEs. Empirical evidence was obtained from a survey of 471 bank loan officers in Spain, in which they were asked to answer questions relating to audited and not-audited firms. Through a Structural Equations Modeling (SEM) approach, the results confirm that the likelihood that the loan officers are more willing to provide access to credit to SMEs, and to do so in more favourable conditions, is negatively influenced by perceived default risk and positively influenced by the general perception about accounting information quality. Besides, we find that information quality is an antecedent of perceived risk, so that the latter becomes the central element of the research model. Additionally, the perceptions of the decision-makers regarding all the analysed variables are better for the audited SMEs than for the unaudited ones.

Her thesis work explored how educational video game effects upon mathematics achievement and motivation scores differed between the sexes. During her tenure at Seminole Community College working as a tenured Professor and Program Manager of the Network Engineering Program, she was Co-PI for the CSEMS NSF grant that explored collaborative administration and industry mentorship planning used to increase enrollments of woman and minorities with declared majors in the areas of Computer Science (CS), Engineering (E), Mathematics (M), and Science (S). Currently, Dr. Kappers is an Assistant Professor within the M.S. in Information Security & Assurance (MISA) within Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's (ERAU) College of Business, Worldwide Campus, and teaches within the College of Engineering for the Daytona Beach Campus of ERAU. Teaching responsibilities include: RSCH 202-Introduction to Research, CS120-Introduction to Computing in Aviation, and the entire collection of MISA-related program courses as needed. Both positions allow her to stay focused upon real-life educational and classroom issues while designing courses that explore technology utilization that is based on structured learning principles and practices. She is an experienced Computer Engineer, Teaching and Learning Center Director, and an Instructional Designer, designing in Blackboard, WebCT, eCollege, and Canvas, and holds many industry-related certifications including the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Trainer (MCT) certificates.
