The Circadian Syndrome Predicts Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Suggestive of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Better Than Metabolic Syndrome in Aging Males: A 4-Year Follow-Up Study

Abstract: Background: The prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suggestive of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) increases in men. Although several risk factors, including metabolic syndrome (MetS) and depression, were identified, the underlying etiological factor remains unclear. Recently, circadian syndrome (CircS) was proposed as a novel risk cluster based on MetS. To compare the predictive power of the CircS and MetS for LUTS/BPH, this study was performed.Materials and Methods: In the baseline survey, 4,3… Show more

“…Also, short sleep durations with fair sleep quality were detrimental to cognitive performance. Short sleep duration will lead to circadian dysfunction, and circadian dysfunction was associated with cognitive decline ( Xiong et al, 2021a ).…”

“…Serum creatinine was measured by the enzymatic photometric assay, spectrophotometry, and modified kinetic Jaffe reaction in different cohorts ( Pattaro et al, 2016 ). To diagnose CKD, the cutoff value of eGFR was set as < 60 ml/min/1.73 m 2 , as in previous studies ( Xiong et al, 2021 ).…”

“…The diagnosis of CKD was mainly based on the eGFR calculated by Schwartz formula (<18 years) and the CKD Epi-equation for adults (>18 years), respectively ( 16 , 17 ). The cut-off was set as eGFR < 60 ml.min –1 /1.73 m 2 ( 17 , 18 ). The summary data from the CKDGen consortium can be downloaded from the United Kingdom Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit (MRC-IEU) Open GWAS database.…”

“…The PAGE study was performed in a non-European ancestry, such as Hispanic/Latino ( n = 22,216), African American ( n = 17,299), Asian ( n = 4,680), Native Hawaiian ( n = 3,940), Native American ( n = 652), or other ( n = 1,052) ( 15 ). CKD was defined as an eGFR (estimated by the CKD Epi-equation) < 60 ml.min –1 /1.73 m 2 ( 17 , 18 ). Different from the CKDGen consortium, in the PAGE study, CKD patients with end-stage renal disease were excluded.…”
